Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov has stunned last year's US Open winner Dominic Thiem<\/a> with a straight sets victory in the fourth round of the Australian Open.<\/p>\n

Dimitrov, who's ranked 21st in the world, and seeded 17 at this tournament, found himself down a break in each of the first two sets before rallying each time to win 6-4 6-4 6-0. The Bulgarian needed just 21 minutes in the third set to seal the match, with Thiem looking far from his best.<\/p>\n

Twenty-nine-year-old Dimitrov will now play in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open for the fourth time in his career when he comes up against the surprise packet of the tournament, 114-ranked Russian wildcard Aslan Karatsev<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

World No.3 Thiem, who was also runner-up at last year's Australian Open, was coming off a tiring five-setter on Friday after beating Nick Kyrgios<\/a> in an epic comeback.<\/p>\n

Despite looking well off today, the Austrian star refused to use his previous match with Kyrgios as an excuse..<\/p>\n

"I mean, it was a special match two nights ago, and of course I woke up maybe a little bit different than on a normal match, especially with all the energy from the crowd but from that side, it didn't really affect me today," Thiem told reporters after the match.<\/p>\n

However, when asked want what went wrong today, all Thiem could say was that it was a "bad" performance for his standards, while making it known he had completely ridden the high and moved past last year's US Open win.<\/p>\n

\"Dominic<\/p>\n

"I think a combination of some things [went wrong]," he added.<\/p>\n

"Some little physical issues, plus a really bad day, plus the fact that, well, he's [Dimitrov] a great player. So a combination of those three things and a result like that can happen.<\/p>\n

"It's a really bad day today, a bad match for my side. But the high from the US Open is long gone.<\/p>\n

"It was great for some days, but the tennis world goes on so fast, and I think for everybody and also for myself, on court it was forgotten already at the French Open and doesn't really affect me anymore, especially now that it's four or five months gone."<\/p>\n
