Australia's Big Bash League<\/a> has been dealt a pre-tournament blow with No.2 draft pick Harry Brook pulling out.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe English<\/a> superstar was set to be a major drawcard for the domestic Twenty20<\/a> league, but the Melbourne Stars<\/a> announced on Thursday he would no longer be heading Down Under.<\/p>\n

Brook, 24, has just finished a disastrous World Cup<\/a> campaign with England, and will now prepare for a tour of West Indies in December.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Naturally we're disappointed that Harry has withdrawn from the BBL but we understand his decision with his increased workload," Stars general manager Blair Crouch said.<\/p>\n

"We obviously rate Harry extremely highly and we would have loved to have seen him at the MCG alongside Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis this summer.<\/p>\n

"We wish him all the best with his upcoming international commitments."<\/p>\n

Brook is a rising star of English cricket, averaging 62.15 at Test level after 12 matches, including 363 runs at 40.33 during this year's Ashes series.<\/p>\n

His white-ball stats are less impressive, \ufeffbut his destructive batting style and ability to score quickly was set to be a selling point for the Stars this year.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne team must now search for an X-factor replacement.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"Given Harry was set to miss the opening three matches, the club had already signed a replacement player for that period," Crouch said.<\/p>\n

"Currently the coaching staff and list management team are discussing options for the remainder of the tournament and we look forward to announcing those signings once they have been finalised."<\/p>\n
