The AFL<\/a> has suspended new Carlton<\/a> player Elijah Hollands<\/a> for two matches, after the league found him guilty of conduct unbecoming in breach of the AFL Rules.<\/p>\n

The suspension comes after Hollands, who was traded from the Gold Coast Suns to the Blues during trade week, pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine in Broadbeach, Queensland on September 3<\/a>, while he was still a Suns player.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old was given a two-month good behaviour bond, as well as being ordered to complete a drug diversion course, which he has now finished.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The league released a statement on Thursday, confirming the suspension.<\/p>\n

AFL General Counsel Stephen Meade condemned the action, urging Hollands and all players to understand the risks involved with illicit drug use.<\/p>\n

"AFL players are well-educated when it comes to the harms associated with the use of illicit substances, and have a responsibility to themselves, their clubs and their careers to uphold community expectations," Meade said in the AFL's statement.<\/p>\n

Hollands has avoided having a conviction recorded.\ufeff<\/p>\n

He will miss the Blues' opening round blockbuster \ufeffagainst Brisbane at the Gabba, as well as the traditional round one clash against Richmond.<\/p>\n
