Former Italian player Adriano\ufeff Panatta has criticised world No.1 Novak Djokovic<\/a> for his behaviour during his three hour loss to Jannik Sinner<\/a> at the ATP<\/a> Finals in Turin.<\/p>\n

The 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-6(2) victory was the 22-year-old Sinner's first win over Djokovic in their four head-to-head meetings.<\/p>\n

It also ended Djokovic's 19-match winning streak that stretched back to his five-set loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.<\/p>\n

It was an intense match, with the umpire telling the fans to be quiet several times as they got behind the local hero, while also also booing Djokovic several times.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old Djokovic, who normally enjoys huge support in Italy, lapped up the boos and even encouraged the fans to up their hostility toward him.<\/p>\n

The reaction from the crowd intensified when\ufeff Djokovic took a bathroom break and called for the physio, in what some local fans viewed as a tactic to halt Sinner's momentum.<\/p>\n

Panatta, who has made no secret of his disdain for Djokovic's behaviour in the past, \ufeffagain highlighted what he perceived to be issues with the Serbian's manner of play.<\/p>\n

"Have you ever seen Federer or Nadal behave the way Djokovic did?" Panatta said.<\/p>\n

"He would have bet anything that he would try for the match to break the rhythm, he always does.<\/p>\n

"First the bathroom, then the physio, he tries everything. I don't like that attitude at all, thank goodness Sinner doesn't care, he stays there calmly."<\/p>\n

It's not the first time Panatta has taken issue with Djokovic. Speaking with the Italian public broadcaster last year, the 73-year-old former French Open winner again compared Djokovic to his legendary contemporaries.<\/p>\n

"Nadal? I enjoy watching his matches and, above all, I admire him from a human point of view," he added.<\/p>\n

"Djokovic? Nothing personal but I dislike him. I'm a bit unpleasant with all the statements he has made in the last two years. He hasn't got one right."<\/p>\n

Panatta's comments came following the decision to ban the Serbian star from taking part in the Australian Open due to his COVID-19 vaccination status and his disqualification from 2020 US open for hitting a line judge with the ball during his match against Pablo Carreno-Busta at Flushing Meadows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
