Australia<\/a>'s team selection is likely to be influenced by the pitch, not the weather in Kolkata for Thursday's World Cup<\/a> semi-final.<\/p>\n

\ufeffCaptain Pat Cummins<\/a> confirmed gun all-rounder Glenn Maxwell<\/a> is available for selection and is almost certain to return to the line-up after being rested last game.<\/p>\n

Maxwell whacked a record double century to beat Afghanista<\/a>n last week, but suffered severe cramps and has been recovering since.<\/p>\n

"Maxi is all clear, he's all good," Cummins told media.<\/p>\n

"It was a precautionary scan. We get scanned a lot of the time just to make sure that if there is something, that we know what we're dealing with, and fortunately it came back all sweet."<\/p>\n

Cyclonic weather conditions earlier in the week had cast doubt over Thursday's fixture, but as of Thursday morning (AEDT) only light to moderate showers were being predicted.<\/p>\n

However, if the match does need to utilise the reserve day, Friday's forecast is more grim and would almost certainly send Australia packing given South Africa finished higher in the standings.<\/p>\n

While the Aussies can't control the skies, they will need to make a call on who goes out to allow Maxwell's return.<\/p>\n

Marnus Labuschagne and Marcus Stoinis appear locked in a battle for the remaining position against the Proteas.<\/p>\n

Labuschagne is the more accomplished batter, but Stoinis has the ability to score faster, and \ufeffprovides another seam-bowling option.<\/p>\n

Labuschagne can bowl leg spin or medium pace, but is less likely to be asked to bowl.<\/p>\n

"In terms of the wicket, it does look like it's probably going to spin a bit more than some of the other wickets," Cummins said.<\/p>\n

"With the all-rounders, someone like say Stoin at No.7, that's giving you valuable overs, but then he also is a really aggressive finisher to the innings, so you're weighing that up against maybe a middle-order batter if you think the bowling might not come into it as much.<\/p>\n

"The runs are to be had through the middle overs rather than blasting out at the end. So, they're things we've got to weigh up."<\/p>\n
