Liverpool<\/a> football player Luis D\u00edaz was reunited with his father, who was kidnapped in northern Colombia<\/a> by members of a guerrilla group in late October and released last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Photos posted on the Colombian Football Federation's account on X, formerly Twitter, captured the striker and his father, Luis Manuel D\u00edaz, hugging each other.<\/p>\n

With the message \u201cWelcome home Luchooo,\u201d the federation announced the arrival of the elder D\u00edaz to Barranquilla, where the Colombian national team is set to play against Brazil on Friday AEDT.<\/p>\n

Armed men on motorcycles kidnapped D\u00edaz\u2019s parents from a gas station in the small town of Barrancas last month.<\/p>\n

His mother Cilenis Marulanda was rescued within hours by police who set up roadblocks around the town of 40,000 people, which is near Colombia\u2019s border with Venezuela.<\/p>\n

After the kidnapping, special forces were deployed to search for D\u00edaz\u2019s father in a mountain range that straddles Colombia and Venezuela. Police also offered a $48,000 reward for information that led to him.<\/p>\n

It was initially unclear who carried out the abduction. Colombia\u2019s government subsequently announced that it had information that a unit of the National Liberation Army, or ELN, was responsible for the kidnapping,<\/p>\n

The group later acknowledged the kidnapping, saying it was a mistake and that its top leadership had ordered the release.<\/p>\n

Diaz\u2019s parents were taken amid peace negotiations between Colombia\u2019s government and the guerrilla group.<\/p>\n

Authorities arrested four suspects over the weekend.<\/p>\n

After D\u00edaz\u2019s father was released, the government\u2019s peace talks delegation demanded in a statement that the ELN immediately free anyone it still \u201chas in captivity\u201d and end its practice of kidnappings.<\/p>\n
