May is a Panthers junior and was mentored by Ciraldo early in his career before debuting for the Roosters last season.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old came of age as an NRL player this year, playing 17 games in the Roosters' top side.<\/p>\n

He is a free agent at the end of 2024, meaning clubs have been able to talk to him since November 1.<\/p>\n

The Roosters paid massive dollars to lure Spencer Leniu from the Panthers recently and don't have much room to offer May an upgrade in the salary cap.<\/p>\n

Experienced Manly hooker Karl Lawton has had a reprieve at Brookvale after being told he was free to look around for a new home at the end of last season.<\/p>\n

Lawton is one of several Sea Eagles who were given permission to leave despite still being contracted to the club for next year.<\/p>\n

But Lawton, aged 27, is back training at Brookvale after recovering from shoulder surgery and seems certain to stay at the club.<\/p>\n

A versatile forward who can also play in the back row, Lawton has played for three NRL clubs – the Titans, Warriors and Sea Eagles – and played 10 games at Manly last season.<\/p>\n

The Eels have snatched promising hooker Ryley Smith from arch rivals Penrith.<\/p>\n

Smith is a rare breed – he played for Australia at schoolboy level in both rugby league and cricket in 2020-21 – a feat not achieved by any sportsman since Souths star Bronko Djura in the early 1980s.<\/p>\n

A talented dummy-half, 20-year-old Smith has been given a second tier contract by the Eels but will be one to watch over the next couple of seasons.<\/p>\n

Remember Steve Linnane, who helped the Dragons to the 1985 grand final and was named rookie of the year the same season?<\/p>\n

He's now 58, but the family name lives on with his nephew Jye, who has won a contract with the Knights.<\/p>\n

The youngster is a talented five-eighth from the Kurri Kurri club, where his uncle finished his career as captain-coach in 1996.<\/p>\n

The youngster made his first grade debut for the club in strong Newcastle Rugby League for Kurri earlier this season and looked the goods.<\/p>\n
