One of David Warner<\/a>'s former Test batting partners has revealed a young "smokey" to replace the legendary opener next year.<\/p>\n

Warner will retire following the summer Test series against Pakistan, leaving a gaping hole at the top of Australia<\/a>'s order.<\/p>\n

\ufeffQueensland opener Joe Burns – who has played 23 Tests, many alongside Warner – named Western Australia batter Cameron Bancroft<\/a> as the most obvious next in line.<\/p>\n

He also floated axed players Marcus Harris and Matthew Renshaw\ufeff as options.<\/p>\n

"Bancroft has made a lot of runs and in tougher conditions, as well, so that's the key thing," Burns told SEN radio in Queensland.<\/p>\n

"Playing at the WACA challenges your technique (and) I'd like to see them give him a chance just on the back of all the runs he has made.<\/p>\n

"He would go really well given the opportunity."<\/p>\n

Burns, 34, essentially ruled himself out\ufeff of selection despite hitting scores of 133, 55 and 91 in his last four Queensland innings.<\/p>\n

He did, though, reveal a young batter not often suggested as a Test opener.<\/p>\n

"The smokey going down the track is Caleb Jewell from Tasmania," Burns said.<\/p>\n

"He has got a really good technique and, more than ever, the opener in Test cricket has to put pressure back on the bowler.<\/p>\n

"It's pretty tight and I wouldn't like to be a selector.<\/p>\n

"I hope whoever they pick, they give a good run to (and) let that person feel comfortable and settle into that position."<\/p>\n
