Australia<\/a> remains wary of the risk Glenn Maxwell<\/a> could potentially \ufeffsuffer a serious injury after he was floored by cramps during his remarkable innings against Afghanistan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Coach Andrew McDonald said both Maxwell and Steve Smith (vertigo)<\/a> are currently poised to face Bangladesh on Saturday\ufeff.<\/p>\n

"At this stage yes," McDonald said of Maxwell playing. "I've got no information to suggest otherwise. It's not quite 48 hours post (match) so that'll unfold more tomorrow (Friday).<\/p>\n

"We'll assess him tomorrow. He'll probably have a light run. If he's not at training tomorrow, then he needs more time to recover. And then it might be a day of the game decision, but everything lends itself to him playing at this stage."<\/p>\n

While he is optimistic of the star duo being available for the Bangladesh clash, McDonald is also aware that an injury at this stage of the World Cup could end a player's tournament.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffT\ufeffhe recovery into the next game is equally as important now," he said of Maxwell's status.<\/p>\n

"On the back of something as physically demanding as that, there's no doubt that you take on a little bit of risk into the next game.<\/p>\n

"It'll be assessed. The medical team is fantastic and they'll feed us information over the next couple of days.<\/p>\n

"We've cancelled training today (Thursday) with the view that we need that extra recovery, so that's a part of the plan leading into the Bangladesh game."<\/p>\n

While Smith's vertigo may have caught the public by surprise, McDonald said the team was "well aware" of what was unfolding with the former skipper.<\/p>\n

"I feel like it just happened at the wrong time for him not to play that game (against Afghanistan)," he said.<\/p>\n

"Whereas if it had've been 24 hours later then he might've been a different decision.<\/p>\n

"He was battling with his balance\ufeff in certain shots and then he went through some running between the wickets as well which probably aggravated it a little more.<\/p>\n

"Then it was clear that he wasn't right for the game."<\/p>\n
