The second game of next year's State of Origin series<\/a> will be played in mid-June at the Melbourne Cricket Ground<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While there was a push for the 2024 Origin series to be played over a four-week cycle, league bosses opted to stick with the same six-week schedule\ufeff undertaken this year.<\/p>\n

The decision won't help Queensland, with the Maroons experiencing a tough record at the MCG, having only recorded one win at the venue since 1995. The Blues, on the other hand, have notched three straight wins at the Victorian ground.<\/p>\n

The 2023 series champions will also have to wait until game three to play at Suncorp Stadium, with the 2024 series to open in Sydney.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"State of Origin has had some amazing moments in Melbourne, from the first game held at the MCG in 1994, right up until the last game in 2018," NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said.<\/p>\n

"State of Origin is the biggest rivalry in Australian sport and to be able to play at the iconic MCG is a great opportunity for fans as we all eagerly await another captivating series in 2024."<\/p>\n

Clubs and coaches were angling for a four-week Origin schedule to minimise player burnout\ufeff, but the NRL has remained steadfast in maintaining the six-week series to maximise the coverage on the code's $100 million marquee event.<\/p>\n
