Glenn Maxwell<\/a> overtook teammate David Warner<\/a> to move to second on an incredible list after his dominant 201 not out<\/a> against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The all-rounder came in at 4-49 and it only got worse for Australia soon after, slumping to 7-91 before Maxwell's astonishing heroics<\/a> saved the day, salvaging a three-wicket victory.<\/p>\n

With Australia scoring 7-293, Maxwell's contribution made up 68.6 per cent of the score, the second highest ever in one-day cricket.<\/p>\n

\ufeffFormer Australian captain Michael Clarke<\/a> said Afghanistan deserved to win until the efforts of Maxwell.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffTremendous boundary hitting, no doubt about it … Australia were under the pump, Australia should have lost that game, Afghanistan were brilliant, they batted really well, set up a good foundation and then they bowled brilliantly … then Maxi just (stepped up)," he said on Sky Sports Radio's The Big Sports Breakfast<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffMaxwell also became the first player to score a double-century for Australia in men's ODIs while also the first to score one in an ODI chase.<\/p>\n

While the Victorian's overall contribution was the second-best ever, he did manage to make the highest \ufeffcontribution in a century stand with 88.61 per cent. Maxwell and Pat Cummins had a 202-run partnership with the freakish all-rounder scoring 179.<\/p>\n

Maxwell beat his previous record of 88.35 per cent from his hundred against the Netherlands<\/a>, which was a partnership with Cummins too.<\/p>\n
