If anyone was entitled a few champagnes on Tuesday night it was two-time reigning Melbourne Cup<\/a> winning jockey Mark Zahra.<\/p>\n

The champion hoop steered Without A Fight to glory in the $8 million feature at Flemington<\/a>, a year after he piloted Gold Trip to the same immortality.<\/p>\n

Zahra had to make a decision this year between riding Without A Fight – who he won the Caulfield Cup on weeks earlier – or Gold Trip, and ultimately chose the Sam Freedman-trained horse despite it being behind Gold Trip in the market.<\/p>\n

It was a bold decision that paid dividends, as Without A Fight powered away to win easily and Gold Trip, under James McDonald, faded to finish mid-field.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"\ufeffIt's good and it's bad – on one hand you could stuff it up and pick the wrong horse, and that would be agonising," a bleary-eyed Zahra told Nine's Today<\/em> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffBut on the other hand they were like second and third in the market… some years, because I'm a bit heavier, I wouldn't have a choice of any rides in the Cup. But to have two favourites, and to get it right\ufeff, it's very justified.<\/p>\n

"(Racing) is (brutal) majority\ufeff of the year. It's all fun and games when you win a Melbourne Cup and you drink champagne for 24 hours, but the rest of the year it's pretty hard.<\/p>\n

"It makes moments like this so much sweeter."<\/p>\n

Zahra emulated Penrith coach Ivan Cleary's hilarious Today<\/em> interview<\/a> the morning after the Panthers won the NRL grand final.<\/p>\n

The \ufeffjockey admitted he hadn't been to bed and had been partying all night following Tuesday's win.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffStill going, but yeah, I'm feeling all right," Zahra said.<\/p>\n

\"Mark<\/p>\n

"So much elation. It's hard to describe as a jockey when it's just you and the horse crossing that finish line. It's amazing."<\/p>\n

Zahra made the Today<\/em> panel burst into laughter when he was asked what rides he had coming up on Oaks Day at Flemington on Thursday.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI can't even remember what I'm riding tomorrow," he laughed.<\/p>\n
