Eddie Jones expects to be back in another coaching job "very shortly" amid widespread speculation he may return to take the reins of Japan.<\/p>\n

Jones was \ufeffquizzed by reporters in Cardiff at the weekend after he co-coached a Barbarians team to a 49-26 loss against Wales at the Principality Stadium.<\/a><\/p>\n

Jones last week quit as Wallabies coach<\/a> just 10 months into a five year contract with Rugby Australia, following a historic Rugby World Cup flop in France.<\/p>\n

The 63-year-old was asked by AAP whether the \ufeffrugby world would see him back in another job, perhaps another national team role again.<\/p>\n

"A hundred per cent, hundred per cent\u2026 very shortly, very shortly," Jones said.<\/p>\n

Multiple media outlets have reported that Jones is set to this month participate in a second round of interviews for the vacant Japan job.<\/p>\n

The exhibition game served \ufeffas a farewell for Wales greats Alun Wyn Jones, Justin Tipuric and Leigh Halfpenny – with the latter joining Super Rugby champions the Crusaders next year.<\/p>\n

It was also an awkward reunion for Jones and Michael Hooper, the former Wallabies captain who he sensationally axed from the World Cup squad.<\/p>\n

The BaaBaas squad contained eight World Cup Wallabies as well as Hooper and Len Ikitau.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's a different thing, different role, different relationship, but you just want to see them do well. And they did very well," Jones said.<\/p>\n

"I think Tom Hooper showed he's going to be a real player of the future. And (Angus) Bell's going to be a player, he'll be a world XV player…<\/p>\n

"They'll be alright, mate. Those players are going to be much better because they've had experience, they've had a tough World Cup campaign and sometimes you need that.<\/p>\n

"It's given them a bit more resilience, a bit more work ethic, and there's good young players there, so I think they'll be fine, mate."<\/p>\n

Jones \ufeffadded that the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia in 2025 would be "huge."<\/p>\n

"Australia's a proud sporting nation and when they're not doing well, everything's bad. Not dissimilar to England," Jones said.<\/p>\n

"But a little bit success and it'll go up – and the Lions is a huge series. Because it's like Home and Away<\/em> isn't it? A little soap opera in its own right."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
