Former National Trans Am Series<\/a> points leader Elliot Barbour has shredded Motorsport Australia's decision to overturn the disqualification of James Moffat and Lochie Dalton.<\/p>\n

The Garry Rogers Motorsport drivers were disqualified from the third round of the series at Winton Motor Raceway after it was found the team had breached the technical regulations.<\/p>\n

However, on appeal, it was determined that the team had not run the illegal item<\/a> as first found in an investigation tribunal.<\/p>\n

Motorsport Australia's findings confirmed the team had used the illegal part in round one and round two at Symmons Plains and Phillip Island respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, a statute of limitations meant no disqualification could be handed out for those events.<\/p>\n

The disqualification of Moffat and Dalton dropped them from first and second in the points to sixth and seventh respectively.<\/p>\n

Barbour was elevated to the lead of the points as a result. However, the reversal of the disqualification means he has dropped back to third and 130 points in arrears.<\/p>\n

"It was short-lived, wasn't it? We were looking forward to going to the last two rounds as the leader," Barbour told Stan Sport's Greg Rust.<\/p>\n

"To be honest, I just think it's a joke. The rest of the field have turned up with legal cars all year and then they just overturn the decision. It's disappointing."<\/p>\n

Barbour took particular umbrage with the Garry Rogers Motorsport team.<\/p>\n

Father-son duo Garry and Barry Rogers owns the Australian Racing Group which owns and promotes the National Trans Am Series.<\/p>\n

"It's nothing personal with the drivers, they're great drivers as it is so they would have been up the front," said Barbour.<\/p>\n

"It's disappointing for the rest of us. We've fronted up within the rules for the whole year and then they haven't and it doesn't matter because they own the show."<\/p>\n

Garry Rogers Motorsport driver James Moffat, who qualified on pole position for race one at Sydney Motorsport Park, said the right decision was made.<\/p>\n

"I think natural justice has come out on top in the end, which is nice," said the Bathurst 1000 podium finisher.<\/p>\n

"There's been a lot of work behind the scenes and probably a lot of unnecessary work, to be honest. I'm happy that it's behind us and we can just focus on the races ahead."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
