Port Adelaide<\/a> captain and three-time premiership player Erin Phillips has announced her retirement from the AFLW<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffA foundation player for both the Adelaide Crows<\/a> when the league launched and expansion side the Port Adelaide Power in 2022 (season seven), Phillips has dominated the competition over her 66 games.<\/p>\n

In her eight seasons, Phillips has received almost every accolade in the competition, including three premierships with the Crows, two league best and fairest medals and three All-Australian honours.<\/p>\n

\"Adelaide's<\/p>\n

She is a two-time premiership captain, and two-time Adelaide Crows Club Champion and was named best on ground in two grand finals.<\/p>\n

"Erin retires as a true champion of the AFLW. She set elite standards as a foundation player in the competition and has won almost everything there is to win in the AFLW," AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said.<\/p>\n

"Her unbelievable set of skills \u2013 kicking, marking, tackling and goal-scoring \u2013 was exemplary and she would always save her best for the big stage."<\/p>\n

Making a foray into elite football at 31 years \ufeffof age, Phillips first enjoyed an illustrious career as an international basketball player.<\/p>\n

As the daughter of Port Adelaide Magpies champion Greg, football has always been in Phillips' blood. After six seasons with the Crows, Phillips joined the Power where she donned the No.1 guernsey after being voted the club's inaugural captain.<\/p>\n

"Erin is a formidable athlete and an exemplary leader," Port Adelaide's head of AFLW Juliet Haslam said in a club statement.<\/p>\n

"Erin has given everything she has to this club," Haslam said.<\/p>\n

"She is a proud Port Adelaide person and her commitment to her craft is second to none. We are so pleased to have shared in the last two seasons of her career. It's been wonderful to watch her lead our group as captain, and we look forward to seeing what she will do next."<\/p>\n

In an emotional press conference, Phillips reflected on her football career, saying she was grateful that she didn't "miss the boat" to play footy at the highest level.<\/p>\n

"I'm not sure where I'd be without the AFLW," she said.<\/p>\n

"I wish I could physically keep going and give this club more but I can honestly say I've given everything I can.<\/p>\n

"I have so much belief in this [Port Adelaide] group and I cannot wait for the day when you guys are on the top of the mountain and I'll be one of the proudest people in the world."<\/p>\n

With \ufeffher experience in high-performance environments, the mother of four could transition into football operations or take up coaching post-footy, however she is yet to determine her next move.<\/p>\n

"The biggest thing I would like to do is take a little bit of time out to evaluate what's next," Phillips said.<\/p>\n

\"Erin<\/p>\n

"I have been in an elite sporting environment since I was 16 years of age, which is longer than some of my teammates have been alive.<\/p>\n

"I've always had this three-year plan, and for the first time it's a little bit unknown – and I'm OK with that.<\/p>\n

"It's a little bit [scary] because I've always been a very driven person, always had my ducks in a row."<\/p>\n

Phillips will hang up her boots following the Power's final match against the Giants on Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
