The AFL<\/a>'s integrity unit has launched an investigation after a Carlton<\/a> star was allegedly racially abused.<\/p>\n

\ufeffBlues player Vaomua Laloifi alerted the club she was the target of racial vilification during the round nine AFLW<\/a> game against Essendon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A club statement on Tuesday said \ufeffLaloifi "has understandably been deeply hurt by the comments" and a probe is underway to identify the culprit.<\/p>\n

"We are shattered as a club that a person we deeply care for in Mua, who brings so much joy and love to so many people, would be subjected to such disgusting behaviour," Carlton CEO Brian Cook said.<\/p>\n

"Such behaviour is not welcome at any level of society, let alone at the football. Coming to the football should be a safe and enjoyable place for all, it is not a place for such ignorant and bigoted language.<\/p>\n

"Our focus and our energy continues to be on doing everything we possibly can to support Mua during this time, who has been put in a position that no person deserves to experience."<\/p>\n

The Bombers also released a statement on Tuesday saying the club "strongly condemns" the comments allegedly made.<\/p>\n

"Vilification, racial or otherwise, has absolutely no place in our society," Essendon said.<\/p>\n

"We must continue to use our platform as a club to call out this behaviour and make a stand against this hateful and hurtful act.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

The Bombers apologised to \ufeffLaloifi and are assisting the integrity unity in hunting down the alleged offender.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
