Melbourne<\/a> coach Simon Goodwin<\/a> has once again denied ever using illicit drugs, and says the rumours about him "have to stop".<\/p>\n

It's not the first time Goodwin has spoken publicly about the allegations, but it was perhaps his most emphatic response when speaking to SEN radio on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

Amid wider allegations of culture problems at the Demons, the coach has been accused of having issues with alcohol, gambling, and illegal substances.<\/p>\n

The question was again put to him on Tuesday by Melbourne legend Garry Lyon.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffNever," Goodwin said when asked if he uses illicit drugs.<\/p>\n

\"Simon<\/p>\n

"I've said this \ufeffover a three-year period now, and it's pretty ordinary that I'm sitting in this position and having to justify that situation.<\/p>\n

"I know where it started, in \ufeffterms of a rumour from down in the Mornington Peninsula, and that was clearly going around, and that for me was really concerning and bizarre at the time.<\/p>\n

"It then led to an allegation \ufeffthat was full investigated by Gary and the club about what that might look like, and there was nothing in it.<\/p>\n

"I do not use illicit drugs.\ufeff I give everything I can to my family and my team, in a way that dedicates my life to our footy club.<\/p>\n

"To have this \ufeffplay out over a three-year period, where my reputation has been caught up in a boardroom battle, has been well documented… over and over again in the public, it's been really hard.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt's taken its toll on myself, my family, everyone, and enough is enough. I don't use illicit drugs, and I never will."<\/p>\n

Melbourne's culture has been called into question after a lacklustre finish to the 2023 season, which was followed by off-field incidents involving Clayton Oliver and Joel Smith.<\/p>\n

Club CEO Gary Pert released a statement on Monday slamming the reports around the Demons<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Demons<\/p>\n

For Goodwin, he says the sustained allegations are now impacting his family.<\/p>\n

"I\ufeff understand that in the public light you're going to have rumours spoken about you, and that's the world we live in," he said.<\/p>\n

"But when it's such a sustained period of time, and there's no fact to the rumour, it is really tough on your family.<\/p>\n

"I love the game, \ufeffI'm passionate about our footy club, I'm passionate about football, and I've led my club to a really high level over a 10-year period, and I'm incredibly proud of that.<\/p>\n

"I \ufeffcertainly don't condone illicit drugs. It's been widely accused that I have a behavioural and lifestyle that's not acceptable… do I enjoy having a beer and a punt, a glass of wine with mates? Of course I do.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffBut I live my life in a way that is a dedicated approach to my career, my football club, and my family.<\/p>\n

"The rumours have to stop.\ufeff It's got way out of control from a boardroom battle, to court documents, to republication, rehashing of a story over and over again to an extent where it's become a fact, which is just not fair.
