Aussie young gun O\ufeffscar Piastri<\/a> has given his view of his collision with Yuki Tsunoda<\/a> at the Mexican Grand Prix<\/a>, claiming the incident was simply the result of "hard racing".<\/p>\n

On lap 49, Tsunoda made heavy contact with the front left of Piastri's McLaren<\/a>, leaving the AlphaTauri<\/a> driver seething at the wheel.<\/p>\n

Tsunoda had been challenging Piastri for seventh on lap 48 but Piastri put up a strong defence, denying him a way around.<\/p>\n

Their intense battle saw them \ufefftouch wheels twice, with Piastri just managing to save himself from spinning out of Turn 1 and into Turn 2.<\/p>\n

On the following lap, Tsunoda again tried to overtake Piastri on the outside going into the first corner, but this time clipped Piastri while moving across the track to send him spinning into the Turn 1 run-off and tumbling down the order.<\/p>\n

Known for his foul mouth in the car, Tsunoda was visibly frustrated and fumed over the team radio as he made his way back onto the track.<\/p>\n

Piastri went on to finish eighth while \ufeffTsunoda crossed the line four places back in 12th position.<\/p>\n

Asked where the fault lay with the incident post-race, Tsunoda was tight-lipped.<\/p>\n

"I don't want to comment about these things. I already commented enough when I was driving," he said.<\/p>\n

"We were showing a good performance and it's such a shame I ended up like that."<\/p>\n

The stewards opted to investigate both moments after the race but ultimately deemed them to be racing incidents with no further action required.<\/p>\n

Quizzed if he could have been more patient given he held a pace advantage over Piastri, Tsunoda curtly responded: "I felt the tyres were starting to struggle so I wanted to overtake as soon as possible."<\/p>\n

Piastri put the crash down to "hard racing" between the pair.<\/p>\n

"The one at the end [on lap 49], I'm not really sure what happened. I was just braking and then we touched wheels. Nothing more than that," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI wasn't really expecting him to go right like that in the breaking zone but anyway, I was OK."<\/p>\n

However, the 22-year-old did not get away completely scot-free, \ufeffwith damage to his car caused by the collision resulting in lost pace.<\/p>\n

With his speed dropping off, McLaren eventually ordered Piastri to let his McLaren teammate \ufeffLando Norris<\/a> by.<\/p>\n

"I had some damage at that point. There were a few broken things. It's visible," said Piastri.<\/p>\n

"But Lando was very quick compared to everyone, so it didn't make any sense to try and battle each other.<\/p>\n

"In the end, it meant Lando got another two spots. It worked out well for the team."<\/p>\n

As was the case in \ufeffMexico City, the F1<\/a> circuit will next head to another venue that Piastri is yet to experience for the Brazilian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

"It's going to be another new circuit [and] a sprint weekend, so I'm going to have to get up to speed quickly," he said.<\/p>\n

"It looks like a cool circuit, an old-school circuit, so definitely something to prepare for and see what we can do. It will be interesting to see."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
