Former England<\/a> captain\ufeff Eoin Morgan<\/a> says he's never come across a sports team that has "underperformed" like Jos Butler<\/a>'s men at the ODI World Cup<\/a> in India, "given the level of expectation".<\/p>\n

Morgan\ufeff is among the thousands of English folk ripping into the side after its 100-run defeat to India in Lucknow<\/a>, which marked England's fifth loss of the tournament and made this campaign the country's worst in World Cup history.<\/p>\n

The English faced further embarrassment when it was revealed after the match that qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy<\/a> would be determined by performance at this World Cup, with host nation Pakistan to be joined by the seven highest finishers in the round-robin stage.<\/p>\n

The English are placed 10th on the table and now await a clash with Australia in Ahmedabad on Saturday night. They are still a mathematical chance of finishing in the top four and reaching the finals, but a loss to the Australians would end the microscopic hope they have.<\/p>\n

"There's something within the team that is definitely unsettled," Morgan said on the Sky Sports coverage.<\/p>\n

"I think there's something else going on \u2014 there has to be."<\/p>\n

England coach Matthew Mott, a former coach of the Australian women's side, hit back at Morgan.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I don't think that at all. I think anyone that's inside our tent at the moment would say that despite our results, we're an incredibly tight-knit unit," Mott said.<\/p>\n

"I can only say from my opinion the group's been incredibly strong in that part. If you see our training sessions, they're full of fun. People are putting their arm around each other, trying to help them."<\/p>\n

Former England captain Michael Vaughan\ufeff believes England needs a circuit-breaker.<\/p>\n

"England are just out of confidence and it's clear they now need a 50-over reset," Vaughan wrote on X.<\/p>\n

"But let's not forget how good this group have been and how much joy they brought many for seven years."<\/p>\n

Lawrence Booth from the UK Daily Mail honed in on Ben Stokes' dismissal, which saw England's Test captain take a wild slog at a Mohammed Shami delivery and have his stumps rattled.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Stokes fell for a 10-ball duck as the English slipped to 3-33, en route to being skittled for 129 runs in 34.5 overs. Until this game, England's lowest total of the tournament was 170.<\/p>\n

"As a partisan crowd approaching 50,000 went berserk, England's talisman sheepishly trudged off," Booth wrote.<\/p>\n

"He had just played possibly the worst stroke of the tournament \u2014 a tired act of surrender that spoke on behalf of a demoralised team."<\/p>\n

Nick Hoult of the UK Telegraph\ufeff laid bare England's grim path ahead.<\/p>\n

"Buttler now drags his dishevelled, defeated troops to Ahmedabad to face the old enemy, Australia, who can deliver a galling finishing touch," Hoult wrote.<\/p>\n

"This cannot go on. England must make changes against Australia and if that means axing one of the big names then so be it because blind loyalty is getting them nowhere."<\/p>\n

Buttler said\ufeff the loss to India was "very disappointing".<\/p>\n

"At the halfway stage chasing 230, we fancied ourselves," said the skipper.<\/p>\n
