Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga<\/a> has spoken of his admiration for Valentine Holmes<\/a> as the outside back prepares to make his first appearance since a white bag scandal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Holmes has been named on the wing\ufeff, replacing Selwyn Cobbo, for Australia's clash against New Zealand.<\/p>\n

This week, the Cowboys centre refused to divulge any details into the incident<\/a> that led to him being suspended by the NRL<\/a> but admitted he was surprised Meninga kept his faith in him.<\/p>\n

"I didn't think he'd select me," Holmes said.<\/p>\n

"Obviously, I'd been doing a lot of training, it's just the games I've been missing out on; it's been almost 10 or 11 weeks since I've played footy.<\/p>\n

"To see the trust he has instilled in me to pull on this jersey in this game, especially for this one, my next one is my 20th Test and it's a pretty big milestone for me."<\/p>\n

Speaking to media on Friday, Meninga said Holmes had taken ownership of his act. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I'm an admirer of Val, he made a stupid mistake, everyone knows that, so he's taken ownership over that, he's paid his penalty," he said.<\/p>\n

Holmes' last game was in round 22 against the Titans when he was sin binned for a high shot and subsequently suspended<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meninga believes the Origin star's work away from the field will keep him in good stead despite the long absence. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"He hasn't played footy for three months … he'll enjoy the run," he said.<\/p>\n
