Former Australian Test captain Tim Paine<\/a> has rinsed Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali over comments made around the famous Ashes stumping<\/a> in an upcoming book 'Bazball: The Inside Story of a Test Cricket Revolution<\/em>'. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Bairstow claimed the act by Alex Carey<\/a> "wouldn't come into my mind" in an extract published in part on the UK Telegraph.<\/p>\n

However, footage posted directly after the incident\ufeff showed the England wicket-keeper committing a similar act on Samit Patel in 2014 during a County game with Bairstow<\/a> waiting for a moment for Patel to lift his back foot in the air before taking the bails off.<\/p>\n

Speaking on SEN Tassie, Paine took Bairstow to task over his comments and the 2014 incident. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"We have seen it happen, numerous times. And not only have we seen it happen Jonny, we've seen you do it<\/a>," he said.<\/p>\n

"And it's been going through social media at the moment, the time Samit Patel was batting, ball went down the legside, Jonny Bairstow was keeping up to the stumps, he wasn't trying to gain an advantage, he'd started in his crease, he wasn't leaving, he simply lifted his foot up to balance himself again and mark centre, like Jonny did and Jonny whipped off the bails."<\/p>\n

Paine added he was unsure when Bairstow made the comments\ufeff but encouraged England to "move on".<\/p>\n

"Samit Patel wasn't trying to gain an advantage and in your words Jonny, that's fair game," he said.<\/p>\n

"It's within the rules, it was out. Get over it and move on, we've spoken about it so much. You can't have your cake and eat it. You've done it yourself in the past, when it happens to you you've got to cop it on the chin."<\/p>\n

In another extract published from the book, Moeen Ali was also quoted as stating he "thought it was out" but criticised Pat Cummins for not calling Bairstow back. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"That quote… 'I just thought it was out'. He thought it was out," Paine said of Ali's statement. SEN Tassie<\/em> of Ali's statement.<\/p>\n

"Then he said he thought it was a great opportunity (for Pat Cummins to withdraw the appeal). If you think it was out, Moeen, it was out. So why would he withdraw his appeal?<\/p>\n

"It's like saying if you hit him in the knee on middle stump, 'I thought it was out but it was a great opportunity to call him back'.<\/p>\n

"No mate, the rules are there and it was out. You don't have to call him back."<\/p>\n

Part of Ali's "great opportunity" reference was for Cummins to "take away the label they have had for a while with Sandpapergate<\/a>".<\/p>\n

Paine was particularly stinging of that criticism, alleging England have committed a similar act. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Don't even start me on the Sandpapergate stuff and that carry on," he said.<\/p>\n

"As I've said, every team in the world has tampered with the ball, including England and including teams he's played in.<\/p>\n
