B\ufeffritish Weight Lifting<\/a> has hailed David Webster as a "remarkable" man and said his impact on the sport was "immeasurable" after he died at the age of 95.<\/p>\n

The governing body also said Webster "left an indelible mark on the world" as a coach, administrator, referee, competitor, promoter, author and historian \u2014 roles which led to him taking on OBE status in 1995.<\/p>\n

He served as Weightlifting Scotland chairman and Scotland's weightlifting coach.<\/p>\n

His commitment to the sport took him to the Rome 1960, Mexico City 1968 and Munich 1972 Olympics.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Webster authored The Iron Men<\/em>, published in 1976, and a World History of the Highland Games<\/em>, released in 2022.\ufeff<\/p>\n

He also hosted the inaugural United Kingdom Strongest Man competition in 2004.<\/p>\n

"David Pirie Webster OBE will indeed be remembered for his contribution and promotion of strength sport," British Weight Lifting said.<\/p>\n

"The sincere condolences of British Weight Lifting is offered to the Webster family during this time of sorrow."<\/p>\n

Commonwealth Games Scotland chief executive Jon Doig also paid tribute to Webster.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"He was a real inspiration to all who met him and a driving force in the worlds of weightlifting, bodybuilding and Highland Games," Doig said.<\/p>\n
