R\ufeffoosters star Millie Elliott<\/a> (nee Boyle) has questioned Kangaroos<\/a> coach Mal Meninga<\/a>'s decision to recall Valentine Holmes<\/a> for Australia's Pacific Championships<\/a> clash against New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Meninga brought \ufeffHolmes straight into his starting line-up<\/a>, at the expense of Selwyn Cobbo, after the Cowboys star served his one-match ban<\/a> for uploading a social media post that breached the NRL's code of conduct in September.<\/p>\n

Holmes was able to serve his suspension during Australia's opening Test of the Pacific Championships\ufeff having been selected in Australia's squad before the incident.<\/p>\n

He will start on the \ufeffwing alongside Dylan Edwards, with fellow winger Josh Addo-Carr also serving a ban<\/a> for bringing the game into disrepute.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Triple M's \ufeffThe Rush Hour with Gus, Jude & Wendell,<\/em> Elliot was disappointed to see Holmes rewarded with an immediate return to the national team.<\/p>\n

"Interesting to \ufeffsee Val Holmes in the mix. We know he's such a great player but I just can't wrap my head around that selection," she said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"I just \ufeffthink it's controversial and I think there're other players that have done well all year that could also be there.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffNo matter who you pick for Australia, you've got the best team available."<\/p>\n

Rugby league great and dual international Wendell Sailor<\/a> agreed that Holmes' selection was a surprise but could sympathise with the 28-year-old being continually punished for his mistake.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffRemember a couple of years ago, [Meninga] talked about setting the standards at the Kangaroos, and look, I understand, I've been through adversity and I've been in trouble a couple of times – more than a couple of times," he said.<\/p>\n

"But \ufeffit's funny, Mal Meninga of all people too, so he obviously really likes Val. Val doesn't make too many mistakes but he's picked him and it's going to be a good squad."<\/p>\n

Meninga had joined the program the previous week to discuss his plan for Holmes.<\/p>\n

"He's \ufeffone of my favourites. You know, he's never let his country down – he's probably never let any team down really," Meninga said.<\/p>\n
