Veteran forward Aaron Woods<\/a> is set to be granted his wish with a new deal at Manly<\/a> – but it will be a contract with a difference.<\/p>\n

Woods, aged 32 and one of the most popular players in the league, is set to get a contract not in Manly's top 30 to start the season.<\/p>\n

Assuming he accepts the deal, he will begin the year in the NSW Cup and also take on a role mentoring the Sea Eagles' young forwards.<\/p>\n

He is then expected to be promoted into the top grade when the inevitable injuries strike the club and in the State of Origin<\/a> period.<\/p>\n

Woods has been contemplating retirement and has already started what is shaping as a promising career in the media.<\/p>\n

But he knows you are a long time retired and has been discussing the possibility of playing on one more year with Manly officials.<\/p>\n

The Dragons may not have signed many players to date, but they have made what could prove a very handy gain in veteran assistant coach Shane Millard.<\/p>\n

Millard is currently working on the coaching staff of the Fijian team, which gives the Dragons a big head start over the field for the best young talent coming through the Bati ranks.<\/p>\n
