Queensland<\/a> captain Daly Cherry-Evans<\/a> is helping Nicho Hynes<\/a> reclaim his NSW Blues jersey after he was brutally axed during this year's State of Origin<\/a> series.<\/p>\n

Despite being named last season's Dally M Player of the Year, Hynes made just one appearance for Brad Fittler's NSW side in 2023, coming off the bench in the opening game of the series in a 26-18 loss before being omitted for the final two games.<\/p>\n

Cherry-Evans was a keen observer as he watched Hynes get axed, and said he is ready to help the Cronulla Sharks<\/a> star as the pair work together in camp for the Kangaroos at the Pacific Championships.<\/p>\n

Hynes will reportedly come off the bench this weekend when the Kangaroos take on New Zealand in Melbourne, and Cherry-Evans knows what it'll take to help the 27-year-old adjust to the unfamiliar role.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI reckon I'll be able to help Nicho," he said.<\/p>\n

"That's how I made my debut at the rep level with Queensland and Australia, as a utility playing in the middle of the field and trying to do some dirty work defensively. It's a bit different for us as halfbacks.<\/p>\n

"He's going to hold his own, he's more than ready for it. I've been there before in his situation so I'll be able to help him along the way."<\/p>\n

\ufeffHowever, Cherry-Evans admitted that bouncing back from a representative axing is easier said than done.<\/p>\n

"It would be (a tough thing to bounce back from)," he said.<\/p>\n

"I can speak on losing your rep position, I've lost the Australian jersey a few times and the Queensland one as well.<\/p>\n

"I definitely feel for him and any advice I've got around that is to just make sure he backs himself.<\/p>\n

"He's a good player and there was a reason why they picked him to begin with.<\/p>\n
