T\ufeffhe Bulldogs<\/a>' preparations for the 2024 season have been dealt a major blow with young gun Karl Oloapu in danger of missing the entire year.<\/p>\n

According to 9News Sydney's Danny Weidler<\/a>, the 18-year-old could be forced to sit out the entire 2024 season due to "immediate neck surgery". <\/p>\n

Canterbury paid a $500,000 transfer fee to poach Oloapu from the Brisbane Broncos earlier this year, and he made seven NRL appearances during the 2023 season.<\/p>\n

Oloapu signed a four-year deal with the Bulldogs and became the youngest player to start in the No.6 jersey since the Super League war when he was given a start against the Gold Coast Titans in round 12 at just 18 years and 123 days.<\/p>\n

He is believed to have been managing the neck issue during the year and opted to rehab the injury instead of representing Samoa at the Pacific Championships.<\/p>\n

Oloapu is expected to form one half of a dynamic halves duo with star teammate Matt Burton, who is also signed to a long-term deal.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"They're developing. They're both young. It's very exciting what the future can hold for those two," Bulldogs coach Ciraldo said prior to their first start together.<\/p>\n

"This is their first game starting together. They spent time together during the week getting that combination sorted.<\/p>\n
