The Wallabies may have bombed out<\/a> but \ufeffan Australian rugby team is leaving France with some silverware after the Steelers won the International Wheelchair Rugby Cup in Paris.<\/p>\n

The tournament was being run in full partnership with the Rugby World Cup<\/a> for the first time and Australia's men's team beat Canada 53-48 in a thrilling final at Accor Arena.<\/p>\n

The Steelers had lost 49-48 to Canada in the tournament opener but immediately seized the initiative through the outstanding \ufeffRyley Batt, considered the world's best wheelchair player, and led from start to finish.<\/p>\n

Not normally prone to exuberant celebrations, Australian head coach Brad Dubberley let his guard down at full-time and was quick to praise his entire squad for their performances over the past week.<\/p>\n

"International Wheelchair Rugby Cup champions, that has a nice ring to it," Australia coach Brad Dubberley said.<\/p>\n

"It's almost exactly a year ago since we won the world championship and to come to this tournament a year later, test ourselves again against the world's eight best teams and come away with the win is massive.<\/p>\n
