Max Verstappen<\/a> had to work harder than usual en route to victory at the United States Grand Prix<\/a>, managing a brake issue\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Despite starting from sixth on the grid,\ufeff Verstappen's pace combined with a winning pit stop strategy, set him up for his 50th grand prix win.<\/p>\n

But it wasn't all smooth sailing for the Dutchman, with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton<\/a> positioned in his rearview mirror for the final few laps.<\/p>\n

Earlier, \ufeffVerstappen voiced his frustration with the brakes over the team radio to his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase and Red Bull<\/a> team principal Christian Horner.<\/p>\n

"Mate, these brakes are so shit compared to [Sunday]," he said.<\/p>\n

"What a piece of shit."<\/p>\n

Soon after, Lambiase informed Verstappen that his pace was dropping compared to teammate Sergio Perez.<\/p>\n

"I know man, my brakes are just shit," he replied.<\/p>\n

In the closing stages of the 56-lap race and with Hamilton fast approaching, Lambiase continually updated Verstappen on his lap times and the shrinking gap to Hamilton.<\/p>\n

\"Max<\/p>\n

But Verstappen soon commanded he "stop talking" while he battled with his brakes in the corners.<\/p>\n

"No talking in the braking [zone], man," he said.<\/p>\n

Verstappen's annoyance was noted by Sky Sports commentators, who agreed that the 26-year-old appeared "flustered".<\/p>\n

"We call it perhaps one of the greatest Formula One cars of all time," former driver Martin Brundle said.<\/p>\n

"And it seems Max has a different terminology for it sometimes."<\/p>\n

The expletive-laden radio messages were not Vertsappen's first of the weekend after he accused Perez of ruining his final flying lap in qualifying<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\ufeffVerstappen clung to the win by 2.2\ufeff seconds ahead of Hamilton and Lando Norris<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking afterwards, he was a bit more\ufeff relaxed.<\/p>\n

"I think the whole race I was struggling with the brakes. That made the race a bit tougher. It was very close at the end," he said.<\/p>\n

"It's incredible to win my 50th grand prix here. Very proud. Of course, we will keep trying to push for more."<\/p>\n

It appeared the novelty of the three-time world champion's winning ways soon wore off with the Austin crowd as spectators booed Verstappen during the trophy presentation.<\/p>\n

Verstappen will be gunning for a record-breaking 16th win in 2023 at next weekend's Mexico Grand Prix.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
