There are hopes that South Africa and New Zealand can deliver one of the great Rugby World Cup finals after the Springboks joined the All Blacks in the big dance with a Houdini act against England.\ufeff<\/a><\/p>\n

South Africa's 16-15 semi-final triumph<\/a> came at the same Stade de France venue but could not have been more different in style than New Zealand's 44-6 romp over Argentina the day before.\ufeff<\/a><\/p>\n

Bookmakers will struggle to separate rugby's greatest rivals \ufeffwho are now gunning to become the first nation to win four World Cups.<\/p>\n

But despite their proud records, the Springboks and All Blacks have only met in \ufeffone final – the iconic 1995 decider at Ellis Park.<\/p>\n

Amid Kiwi claims of poisoning, a South African side inspired by the late Nelson Mandela \ufeffwere able to slow the late Jonah Lomu and claim an upset 15-12 victory in extra time.<\/p>\n

"We all thought that the Springboks would win easily but I'm pleased that we'll see South Africa and New Zealand in this final," former Wallabies backrower Stephen Hoiles said on Stan Sport.<\/p>\n

"Because England would have had to play that style of rugby again next week and it wasn't the greatest spectacle. We want to see an outstanding game of rugby next week, which is what we saw in the quarter-finals. We didn't get it tonight, but that's OK because that's what the conditions do.<\/p>\n

"But I believe South Africa are the best team to challenge the All Blacks and also to give us a good spectacle next week.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Both teams lost pool matches, with New Zealand downed 27-13 by hosts France in the tournament opener and South Africa outfoxed 13-8 by then world No.1 Ireland.<\/p>\n

The Springboks have since returned to the top of the world rankings with the All Blacks slotting in at No.2.<\/p>\n

"So knowing each other when you play so often, probably gives you a little bit more confidence to fire all your shots," Hoiles said.<\/p>\n

"If you don't know a lot about an opposition, which is what you see when a north plays a south team, it tends to be a little bit conservative and takes 10, 20 minutes to find out what style of game is being played. I feared if England had won tonight, it would have been a dour but tough and brave contest next week.<\/p>\n

"I do feel now that South Africa are in, we're in for a spectacle."<\/p>\n

New Zealand blew South Africa off the park in a 35-20 Rugby Championship win in Auckland in July\ufeff.<\/p>\n

And then the Springboks exacted revenge with a 35-7 flex in a World Cup warm-up match in London in August.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"You can't win by playing like that (second semi-final) against New Zealand for 80 minutes," Hoiles said.<\/p>\n

"You have to chance your arm a little bit more. I think a few people up north will be disappointed with how it ended up.<\/p>\n

"And I'm hoping we also get to see the northern hemisphere referee Wayne Barnes.<\/p>\n

"He didn't ref in the semi-finals and that's often an indication you might get the Rugby World Cup final. That gives me confidence we're going to see a good game. But I do think New Zealand will win."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
