F\ufefferrari driver Charles Leclerc<\/a> has claimed pole position at the United States Grand Prix<\/a> after world championship Max Verstappen<\/a> had his final flying lap time deleted for exceeding track limits.<\/p>\n

With his time, Verstappen snatched provisional pole by just five-thousandths of a second (0.005secs) but had the lap time deleted for running wide at the second last corner of the Circuit of Americas track in Austin. He will start sixth.<\/p>\n

Earlier, \ufeffVerstappen voiced his frustration over the team radio, accusing his teammate Sergio Perez<\/a> of putting him in dirty air on the last corner, causing him to lose grip.<\/p>\n

Verstappen caught Perez at the final corner of his first run of Q3, with the turbulent air only causing him to settle for third-fastest.<\/p>\n

"Well done, well f—ing done there," Verstappen said.<\/p>\n

"What the f— was that in the last corner? F—ing bullshit."<\/p>\n

With \ufeffVerstappen's time deleted, Leclerc, who was on provisional pole earlier in Q3, was awarded pole for Monday morning's race.<\/p>\n

"I knew at Turn 19 that it was going to be a close call," Verstappen said afterwards.<\/p>\n

"I had a little mistake at Turn 1, so had to really push for it in the rest of the lap.<\/p>\n

"I didn't even understand, I just tried to maximise the corner and I misjudged it by a little bit.<\/p>\n

"It's very fine margins when you are pushing to the limit. It's unfortunate but it makes Sunday more fun."<\/p>\n

Alongside Leclerc on the front row will be \ufeffMcLaren's Lando Norris, followed closely by Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and the Scuderia's Carlos Sainz.<\/p>\n

Norris' teammate and Australian hope Oscar Piastri could only manage 10th.<\/p>\n

In his return race from a broken hand\ufeff, fellow Aussie Daniel Ricciardo was eliminated in Q2. He will \ufeffstart in 15th, behind his AlphaTauri teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who finished 11th.<\/p>\n

Veteran Fernando Alonso failed to make Q3 for the first time this season as both he and his Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll were bundled out of the first stage.<\/p>\n

In Q1, Haas' Nico Hulkenburg bagged provisional pole momentarily before his time was deleted, causing him to tumble into the bottom five and and be eliminated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
