A\ufeffustralian golfing<\/a> legend Greg Norman<\/a> has spoken out on the merger between LIV Golf<\/a> and the PGA Tour<\/a> after reports he was set to lose his job as the former's chief executive.<\/p>\n

Norman was one the key figures behind the emergence of Saudi-funded LIV Golf, but documents tended in a US Senate hearing indicated the PGA Tour had pushed for the 68-year-old to be ousted as part of the merger.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHowever, the former world number one rebuked those claims ahead of a LIV event in Miami.<\/p>\n

"I knew it wasn't true," he told media.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThere's so much white noise running around out there. I actually paid zero attention to it. I know sitting in this seat today, I know every step I've made has been for the right reasons.<\/p>\n

\"Greg<\/p>\n

"But golf is the principal reason why what I've done today is right. So I was never in any fear of anybody saying anything or any animus against me or anything like that. Because the business model works."<\/p>\n

The announcement of the merger, which also included the DP World Tour, was made on June 6, with a framework for golf's future still unclear.<\/p>\n

Norman confirmed he's not a part of those discussions moving forward, \ufeffbut expressed his desire for the plan to work.<\/p>\n

"I have my own personal points what that is, but I'm not involved with it," he said.<\/p>\n

"I don't want to be involved with it. There's smarter people involved with that than I am. I just hope it does work. I really do. I've always been a believer of that. That's why I wanted to speak to (PGA Tour commissioner) Jay Monahan a long time ago.<\/p>\n

"I wanted to speak to him to explain the value of what our product is. And the value of what we can give back to everybody."<\/p>\n

The LIV Golf stakeholder \ufeffalso spoke of how the organisation will continue to grow, despite speculation around whether the Adelaide event will go ahead.<\/p>\n

Norman also \ufeffexpressed his desire to bring in new players.<\/p>\n

"All indications are showing that the position of LIV has never been stronger and that the success of our players and our brand has never been in a better place," he said.<\/p>\n

"And as we look forward into 2024, we've got a full schedule. We've got some places we've been to before, but we've got some new venues as well and we're reaching different regions.<\/p>\n

"… I know, personally I'm speaking to numerous players who want to come to LIV. LIV is independent. I don't see LIV going anywhere but up."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
