Jack Ginnivan<\/a>'s manager John Meesen has opened up on the fast-moving trade deal that landed his star player at Hawthorn after Collingwood<\/a> agreed to a deadline day trade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe forward was part of Collingwood's premiership-winning side but met with Hawthorn on Tuesday, having only just returned from holiday.<\/p>\n

Conjecture has continued since Wednesday – the final day of trades – as to who initiated the move with Meesen providing context around the decision. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I picked up the phone and called Wrighty (Collingwood footy boss Graham Wright) after my phone started blowing up," he told SEN.<\/p>\n

"It was put to me that Jack was being floated around.<\/p>\n

\"Collingwood's<\/p>\n

"I don't want to go tit for tat.<\/p>\n

"From that conversation I got off the phone to him knowing that Jack's future wasn't at Collingwood.<\/p>\n

"… Who initiated the discussion was probably me on the back of some trusted people in the industry saying his name is kind of getting thrown out there.<\/p>\n

"I picked up the phone, took Wrighty at his word that he hadn't made any conversations about Jack leaving but from that you start to unwind a little bit on, 'OK well where does he sit? What does it look like? Can you give us any assurance?' There wasn't a whole heap of fighting to want to keep Jack at the footy club so we had to move quickly.<\/p>\n

"… That's the nature of the industry \u2013 we move on."<\/p>\n

Wright has previously stated the decision was Ginnivan's to look elsewhere, despite the forward having an inconsistent season.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old\ufeff started the 2023 season with a two-game ban for a pre season drug scandal<\/a> but managed to fight his way back into the team.<\/p>\n

It was then revealed he attended the races, a day before the grand final. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Meesen said he had to "read the room" after a number of changes were made to Collingwood's roster.<\/p>\n

"When (Collingwood) decided to bring in some guys over the last couple of years \u2026 I think that had a bit of a direct effect of where Jack stood in the standings at the Collingwood footy club," he said.<\/p>\n

"If you've got one year to go, kind of in and out of the side, you've got to read the room and I felt like we had to read the room there and potentially look at some other options."<\/p>\n

The youngster's manager also indicated there's still plenty of improvement left in Ginnivan. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Is he the most elite professional trainer? Probably not \u2013 but he's young. Not many are at 20 years old," he said.<\/p>\n

\"Jack<\/p>\n

"The whirlwind he had from the last two or three years, he's gone from relatively unknown to this enigma and this personality in the AFL industry, it's kind of hard to escape that and just settle into your career and be yourself because everything he was doing was magnified.<\/p>\n

"Was it standards, was it him, was it just being at Collingwood? The magnifying glass that Collingwood brings is intense.<\/p>\n

"I think Jack understands the reality right now, less than 20 days ago he became a premiership player and now he finds himself at another footy club.<\/p>\n

"Hopefully this is what Jack needs to settle into his career and probably take the spotlight off him."<\/p>\n

Meesen also revealed other clubs expressed interest but Hawthorn were ultimately the best fit for his client. \ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
