Former dual-code international Mat Rogers says he's mystified after Eddie Jones'<\/a> topsy-turvy press conference that he believes raises more questions than answers.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Jones addressed the media<\/a> after the woeful Wallabies<\/a> campaign at the Rugby World Cup<\/a> in which they were bundled out before the quarter-finals for the first time in the tournament's 10 editions.<\/p>\n

With watery eyes, the head coach tried to bat away questions about his future with Rugby Australia<\/a> amid rumours he'll leave to join the Japan Rugby Football Union<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the stand-up, Jones reaffirmed his commitment to the Wallabies, repeatedly stating he'll see out his contract to the 2027 Rugby World Cup \u2014 as long as Rugby Australia will have him.<\/p>\n

"Staying mate," said Jones.<\/p>\n

"I've always been committed to Australian rugby. \ufeffI want to leave it in a better place and that's still the job."\ufeff<\/p>\n

However, not everyone is convinced, including Rogers who said he didn't believe Jones.\u00a0<\/p>\n

His statements "did not pass the pub test" according to ex-Wallaby of 45 caps.<\/p>\n

"I knew this press conference was coming. I wanted to watch this press conference and feel better. I'm not feeling better. I don't know if you are after that," Rogers said on Stan Sport's RWC Central<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I would love to grab Eddie and just say, 'Hey mate, let's go and have a coffee. Can I just sit down with you?'\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I know Eddie, and I've got a lot of time and a lot of respect for Eddie. I just \u2026 I feel like I wanna just sit with him and go, 'Eddie, tell me where you're at? What's going on?' Because this is not the Eddie I was coached by, the person I'm seeing come across through the media.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He's very protective of his players and I get that and I understand that. I want to see him committed, supporting his players and committed to the cause. I'm just not quite seeing that. Maybe behind the scenes there is.<\/p>\n

"Whether he's trying to \u2026 I don't know \u2026 protect his players, protect what they're trying to do, he just can't be as candid in the press, maybe he doesn't trust some of the press, who knows?"<\/p>\n

Jones preached alignment across rugby as a necessary step forward for the sport.<\/p>\n

Asked whether some responsibility around selection should be taken out of Jones' hands, Rogers said reigning him in might be part of the solution.<\/p>\n

In any case, he said there needs to be drastic headway made to stop rugby in Australia bleeding fans and money.<\/p>\n

"From the outset, the idea was; Eddie, come in, put your stamp on things, let's see how things unfold," said Rogers.<\/p>\n

"Whether or not that's true or not \u2026 that's the whisper I've heard. Let's give him carte blanche and see how he goes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Well, perhaps there needs to be some governance around the operating model that he's working with.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Rugby Australia is haemorrhaging at the moment \u2013 fans, probably money.\u00a0<\/p>\n
