Australian<\/a> skipper Pat Cummins<\/a> has responded to ex-captain Michael Clarke<\/a>'s incorrect claim that the fast bowler was set to be dropped against Sri Lanka last Sunday.<\/p>\n

The 2015 World Cup-winning captain claimed "there's talk we're going to drop our captain" prior to Australia's win over Sri Lanka on Monday night<\/a> during an appearance on Sky Sports Radio's Big Sports Breakfast<\/em> while addressing his frustration around the axing of Alex Carey in favour of Josh Inglis after Australia's tournament-opener.<\/p>\n

"So in in two games our two most significant players in a squad on tour are going to be left out," he said.<\/p>\n

"Do you not know your best XI before you get to a World Cup?<\/p>\n

"If Alex Carey is only given one game, he shouldn't be in India. They shouldn't have taken him.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

"If Pat Cummins is going to get dropped and not captain the team, then you guys have selected the wrong captain."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Clarke's claim was ultimately rebuffed with Cummins selected and Carey's replacement Josh Inglis also hitting a half-century in Australia's five-wicket win.<\/p>\n

Speaking in the lead-up to Australia's important clash against Pakistan, Cummins said he wasn't fazed by Clarke's commentary.<\/p>\n

"Yeah not much really, couple of the boys let me know I'd been dropped so that was interesting,"\ufeff he said with a wide smile.<\/p>\n

In a wide-ranging press conference, Cummins was also asked about the fitness of his side, with many observers believing Australia looks weary during a year that's included a Test tour of India and England along with two short-format series' in the lead-up to the World Cup.<\/p>\n

"I'd say it's not overly different to any other national team, nature of being an international cricketer is you play a lot, probably over 100 days of the year you're playing cricket," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI think we've done a good job of managing anyone as best as we can so I wouldn't say that's a huge factor in the first two losses."<\/p>\n
