Star P\ufeffanthers<\/a> playmaker Jarome Luai<\/a> has signed with a new management company in another indication that he will test himself on the open market in less than a fortnight's time.<\/p>\n

Nine's Danny Weidler\ufeff revealed in July that Luai had lost a $100,000 contract after splitting with management company SFX Sports Group<\/a>, and after some three months of self-management, the former NSW State of Origin five-eighth has inked a deal with Black Money.<\/p>\n

That company looks after NRL<\/a> stars Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, Jack Wighton and Bradman Best.<\/p>\n

Luai will be allowed to test his value on the open market when he becomes a free agent on November 1, given his contract is set to expire at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n

Another indication that\ufeff Luai will test his value is he's the only big Penrith name who remains uncontracted beyond 2024, after Dylan Edwards, Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin and Moses Leota penned new deals in 2023. Nathan Cleary last year signed a blockbuster extension, making him one of the NRL's most highly paid players until his deal elapses at the end of 2027.<\/p>\n

Knights legend Andrew Johns weighed in on Luai's contract call in July.<\/p>\n

"So he's got to make the decision … He sets himself up [to be] really comfortable after footy, or does he stay at Penrith and win most weekends? So it's a big decision," Johns said on Wide World of Sports' Freddy and The Eighth<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I think he'll go."<\/p>\n

When quizzed on Luai's contract situation in grand final week, Penrith coach Ivan Cleary said the Panthers would remain his home.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"He belongs with us, we belong with him \u2014 it's a good fit," Cleary told The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"It's like a lot of our boys; if he really wanted to get as much money as he wanted to [elsewhere], he would probably get it.<\/p>\n

"But I think we can come up with something that's very good for him.<\/p>\n

"It's a good fit."<\/p>\n
