Brandon Zerk-Thatcher's manager, Tom\ufeff McConville, has confirmed he was involved in a "heated" exchange with Essendon<\/a> list boss Adrian Dodoro during the final hour of the trade period.<\/p>\n

Both men were at the centre of a trade with \ufeffPort Adelaide's Xavier Duursma heading to Essendon for Zerk-Thatcher<\/a> along with pick 73 and two future fourth-round picks.<\/p>\n

The deal had been discussed since the start of the trade period but it wasn't finalised until the last minute of deadline day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McConville confirmed he was stressed and unsure if a deal would get done. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"At about quarter past seven, there was another stalemate,' he told SEN.<\/p>\n

"We were making slow progress as the night went \u2013 really slow progress \u2013 and about 7.15 I thought 'gee we need to prepare ourselves for this not getting done'.<\/p>\n

"But things move really quickly in the last 10 minutes of trade. When the deadline is there, it puts a lot of people into action. So luckily enough to get done."\ufeff<\/p>\n

McConville went on to admit there was a heated discussion between he and Dodoro, who has earnt a reputation for his dealings during his 20-plus years with Essendon's recruitment team.<\/p>\n

"It got a bit heated last night, but that's all in good fun of it," he said.<\/p>\n

"Adrian and I have known each other a long time … I understand why Adrian has been in this position for so long. He's so passionate about his club and all he thinks about is the Essendon Football Club \u2013 and that's at the forefront of his mind. You've got to respect that.<\/p>\n

"That's why I thought before this trade was even in motion, it's going to be one of the last ones done because ultimately Adrian was going to try and get the best deal done for his club, Port Adelaide was going to try and get the best deal for them. I was unfortunately stuck in the middle of it for a period there.<\/p>\n

"It does get heated, but that's all part of it."<\/p>\n

Witnesses to the incident said both men were looking at each other's phones with McConville confirming those reports.<\/p>\n

"Yeah a bit of theatre to go along with it, mate. That's how we do it. We've got that relationship where we can have those arguments and come to blows and walk away. It's all business at the end of the day and were trying to push the envelope in the one direction," he said.<\/p>\n

"There's a little bit of disagreement \u2013 that's fine, that's what you get this time of the year.<\/p>\n
