B\ufeffulldogs<\/a> flyer Josh Addo-Carr<\/a> has broken his silence over his involvement in a brawl at the Koori Knockout<\/a> earlier this month, which saw him suspended and fined by the NRL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While playing for the Sydney All Blacks in their clash against the Walgett Aboriginal Connection, Addo-Carr allegedly punched an opposition player in the head mid-match, triggering an all-in brawl.<\/p>\n

The match was subsequently cancelled.<\/p>\n

Speaking alongside Josh Mansour on their show Lets Trot<\/em>, Addo-Carr explained the tense events that led to the sideline altercation, primarily a high tackle that knocked him out momentarily.<\/p>\n

"There were a few situations during the game that led to that," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI was copping it all game against the Wallgett boys and ended up getting knocked out, put to sleep five, ten minutes into the game.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt was a fiery game. Two strong teams, two proud communities going against each other.<\/p>\n

"It was unfortunate that \ufeffthat incident happened at the end of the game."<\/p>\n

Addo-Carr was slapped with a two-match suspension and a $5000 fine as punishment for plunging the game into "disrepute". He was also ordered to undertake "appropriate remediation".<\/p>\n

As a result, \ufeffAddo-Carr was withdrawn from the Kangaroos' squad to serve his ban over Australia's first two Tests of the Pacific Championships\ufeff<\/a><\/p>\n

This was permitted as \ufeffthe winger was selected for the Kangaroos squad<\/a> before the incident.<\/p>\n

Filmed last Wednesday, before Addo-Carr received the result of his appeal, he said he was surprised by the severity of the punishment.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI'm appealing it and I'm trying to fight for my innocence," he said.<\/p>\n

"I didn't think anything was going to come from it. I'm pretty disappointed\ufeff in the way things fanned out. Hopefully it falls my way."<\/p>\n

Of Addo-Carr's $5000 fine, $3000 is suspended and will only be payable if he breaks the NRL's code of conduct again in the next 12 months.\ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
