Play during Australia<\/a>'s must-win World Cup<\/a> clash against Sri Lanka<\/a> had to be paused after advertising awnings collapsed in strong winds in Lucknow.<\/p>\n

The weather in the Indian city had been hot and humid all day, but a cool change midway through the Sri Lankan innings brought with it strong winds, passing showers and even a dust storm.<\/p>\n

The wind blew dust and rubbish across the field, with some players appearing to shield their eyes from the worst of it.<\/p>\n

Reports from the ground suggest awnings were blown down twice – the first time in a more internal part of the stadium that didn't have an affect on play, before the higher awnings fell in a spectator area in the 43rd over.<\/p>\n

Video posted on social media showed the hoarding frames falling in amongst fans as they scurried away.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, no one is believed to have been injured.<\/p>\n

The delay lasted about five minutes, and ground announcements over the PA system asked spectators to move into the upper decks of the stadium and out of harm's way.<\/p>\n

"We're worried about the wind and the damage it can do from a spectator's point of view as much as anything else," Ian Smith said in commentary during the break.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"You can see it's not just the hoardings themselves \u2013 it's the scaffold and the structures that have been holding them together.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Some of them have blown down as well and that has presented quite a dangerous element to some of the spectators in the grandstand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"So I think they're fully justified in holding off until we can get a bit of a break in the weather.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It absolutely disintegrated in the wind, so we have a few questions to answer before we get on with Australia's reply."<\/p>\n

The delays didn't seem to affect the Aussies' momentum though \u2013 they rolled the Sri Lankans for 209 after conceding 125 for the opening partnership.<\/p>\n

Pat Cummins picked up the first two wickets, before Adam Zampa spun his way into the record books with figures of 4-47, becoming just the third Australian spinner to take four wickets at a World Cup.<\/p>\n

Shane Warne (four times) and Brad Hogg (twice) were the only others to do it.<\/p>\n
