What was anticipated to be a Bills blowout turned into a ground-it-out, yard-by-yard, heated and occasionally sloppy thriller that wasn\u2019t decided until the final play, and on an untimed down.<\/p>\n

A third-quarter fight started with Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux\ufeff kicking, sparking an intense scrap.<\/p>\n

The final play of the game saw Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor\u2019s pass into the end zone glance off Darren Waller\u2019s finger tips facing first-and-goal from the 1. New York got an extra chance after linebacker Terrel Bernard was flagged for defensive interference on a pass intended for Waller as time expired on third-and-five from Buffalo\u2019s 10.<\/p>\n

The Bills (4-2) hung on, but barely, in an outing they overcame being shut out in the first half of a game for the first time since a mean-nothing 2019 season finale \u2014 a 13-6 loss to the New York Jets, in which Buffalo rested Allen and its starters after having already clinched a play-off berth. And Buffalo overcame two first-half turnovers \u2014 receiver Gabe Davis\u2019 lost fumble and an Allen interception \u2014 which led to the Giants pulling ahead on Graham Gano hitting 29- and 43-yard field goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was wild. Got the W. Just fortunate to get the win,\u201d Bills safety Micah Hyde said. \u201cI know it\u2019s early in the season, but you can\u2019t let those close games slip, and we were able to get it done … At the end of the day, we gave up nine points.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Giants (1-5) lost their fourth straight in a game they ended each half with a drive stalling at Buffalo\u2019s 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe came up a yard short,\u201d Giants coach Brian Daboll said in what was a disappointing homecoming. \u201cYou don\u2019t get trophies for trying. But I appreciate their efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daboll grew up in the Buffalo area and spent four seasons as the Bills offensive coordinator in which he played a key role in developing Allen before being hired by the Giants last year.<\/p>\n

The game featured a scare in the second quarter when Buffalo running back Damien Harris was loaded into an ambulance on the field and taken to the hospital for testing after sustaining a neck injury. Harris flashed a thumbs-up sign with his left hand as he was being loaded into the ambulance. The Bills said the fifth-year player had movement in his extremities.<\/p>\n

The outing also proved feisty with a scuffle breaking out in the Bills end zone in the third quarter. It started with Thibodeaux laying on the turf and appearing to kick at Buffalo left tackle Dion Dawkins. New York\u2019s Leonard Williams then pushed down Bills right tackle Spencer Brown. And even Allen got into it by using his shoulder to run into linebacker Bobby Okereke.<\/p>\n

There are also dozens of accusations on X of \ufeffThibodeaux kicking, including from US publication Complex Sports.<\/p>\n

Okereke dominated on defence with a team-leading 11 tackles, deflected an Allen pass that was intercepted by Micah McFadden, and also forced Davis\u2019 fumble.<\/p>\n

The Bills resembled more like the team that spent last weekend appearing jet-lagged in a 25-20 loss to Jacksonville in a game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Buffalo managed just nine first downs and 142 yards offence in a first half in which it punted three times.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to find ways to get off to a fast start, and I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve done that the last few games,\u201d Allen said. \u201cAt the end of the day, to win an ugly one, we\u2019ll take it.\u201d<\/p>\n

New York settled for Graham Gano hitting field goals, including a 29-yarder with 10:35 remaining that put the Giants ahead 9-7. It came after Allen methodically oversaw a 17-play, 75-yard drive that ate up nearly 10 minutes and was capped by a three-yard touchdown pass to Deonte Harty.<\/p>\n

The Bills were unable to seal the victory on offence after Morris\u2019 touchdown. The Giants\u2019 ensuing drive stalled at their own 38, when they turned the ball over on downs with under two minutes remaining.<\/p>\n

Buffalo\u2019s Tyler Bass, however missed a 53-yard field goal attempt wide right, giving the Giants one more chance. Bass also missed a 52-yard attempt wide right in the second quarter.<\/p>\n

Allen finished 19 of 30 for 169 yards passing with two touchdowns and an interception.<\/p>\n

A New York team that has combined for just five offensive touchdowns this season continued having difficulty finding the end zone.<\/p>\n

The Giants have yet to score an offensive touchdown in the first half of a game this season \u2014 though they came awfully close. With no time outs left and facing first-and-goal from the 1 and 14 seconds remaining, the Giants handed the ball off to Saquon Barkley who was stopped for no gain and New York was unable to get another play off before time expired.<\/p>\n

Taylor finished 24 of 36 for 200 yards starting in place Daniel Jones, who was sidelined by a neck injury. Barkley had 24 carries for 93 yards in his first game after missing the past three with an ankle injury.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
