Veteran Geelong<\/a> forward Tom Hawkins<\/a> has signed a one-year contract extension to extend his decorated career to an 18th season at Kardinia Park.<\/p>\n

While Geelong was always committed to extending Hawkins' contract, it is understood that Melbourne<\/a> made a \ufefflate play for the 35-year-old as talks between the Cats and Hawkins slowed post-season.<\/p>\n

"Melbourne's offer for him was good and it was laid out," SEN journalist Sam Edmund told AFL Trade Radio on Friday.<\/p>\n

While Edmund did not \ufeffknow if Melbourne offered a multi-year deal, Edmund said the money on offer "was good".<\/p>\n

It is also unclear if Geelong was forced to up its price to secure Hawkins' signature.<\/p>\n

In a club statement, Hawkins addressed the lengthy negotiation process.<\/p>\n

Playing on in 2024, Hawkins will most likely break Joel Selwood's games record at the Cats, requiring just eight games to surpass the mark of 355.\ufeff<\/p>\n
