South Africa<\/a>'s comfortable World Cup<\/a> victory over Australia<\/a> has been overshadowed \ufeffby a bizarre review that left Marnus Stoinis standing his ground.<\/p>\n

The Proteas notched their second win of the tournament, \ufeffscoring 7-311 in their innings before bowling out Australia for 177<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Quinton De Kock became the second man to score back-to-back World Cup centuries for South Africa with 109, joining AB De Villiers in the history books. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Despite De Kock's man of the match efforts, the biggest talking point will be Stoinis' dismissal.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe all-rounder was originally given not out before South Africa reviewed the decision.<\/p>\n

Third umpire Richard Kettleborough judged Stoinis' bottom hand to be connected to the top hand as ultraedge showed a spike\ufeff with the decision reversed.<\/p>\n

Stoinis<\/a> wasn't happy, discussing the call with the umpires as De Kock's catch was then reviewed but given the all clear. \ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeff"That's a really odd one there," Nasser Hussain said on commentary.<\/p>\n

"He gloved it, it looked like his bottom hand was off the handle, the third umpire said his bottom hand was \ufeffattached to the top hand."\ufeff<\/p>\n

F\ufefformer Australian captain Aaron Finch was left shocked by the call.<\/p>\n

"If you look at that split screen on the left, the bottom hand is a long way from that top hand," he said on commentary.<\/p>\n

"That's a strange decision."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Australian great Mark Taylor saw it differently though.<\/p>\n

"There's\ufeff no doubt the catch seemed fine … I think they're worried about Stoinis whether his hand was off the bat when that spike was shown. But I've got a feeling the ball might have hit the handle of the bat which means he's hit the ball," he said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

"I don't really know, if that is the case of what all the controversy is about, I can only assume that Stoinis thought the ball's hit his glove of his bottom hand and it wasn't on that bat. If that was the case, then it wouldn't be out.<\/p>\n
