Essendon<\/a>-bound defender Ben McKay is among\ufeff seven players whose reputations have grown the most during this trade period, according to Kane Cornes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio, the Port Adelaide great said the reputations of Jacob Koschitzke, Mabior Chol, \ufeffBrandon Zerk-Thatcher, Aaron Naughton, Esava Ratugolea, Harrison Petty and McKay had been bolstered the most during the off-season.<\/p>\n

Cornes named McKay at the top of his list after he secured a reported $800,000-a-season deal with the Bombers<\/a>, which turns out to be $4.8 million over six years for the former Kangaroos backman.<\/p>\n

"The player whose reputation has grown the most in the last six months, I'm going to say is Ben McKay, like come on," Cornes said.<\/p>\n

\"Ben<\/p>\n

"Seventy-one games in six seasons, he has not had a Brownlow Medal vote, he finished seventh in North Melbourne's best and fairest.<\/p>\n

"He was beaten by Tarryn Thomas who didn't play until round 12, Jack Ziebell finished fifth, he's retiring and he's out the door.<\/p>\n

"This guy, you could count on one hand the number of good games that he's played.<\/p>\n

"I understand it there's a need and there's a want across the competition for players like this.<\/p>\n

"If it wasn't Essendon, there would have been two other clubs that would have signed Ben McKay.<\/p>\n

\"Zerk-Thatcher<\/p>\n

"But you cannot argue his reputation far exceeds anything that he's done on the field."<\/p>\n

Cornes was equally critical of Zerk-Thatcher, who has requested a trade to Port Adelaide, saying the 25-year-old is a player who "has goals kicked on him for fun".<\/p>\n
