A\ufeffustralia<\/a> and Indonesia could be set to put forward a joint bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup<\/a> as Saudi Arabia continues to be the raging favourite to earn hosting rights.<\/p>\n

The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> has revealed\ufeff Australia and Indonesia's ploy could also include Malaysia and Singapore as co-hosts with an October 31 deadline for expressions of interest.<\/p>\n

Having signed some of the world's biggest stars to its national league, Saudi Arabia has ramped up its interest in football by launching a bid for the competition on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Gulf Arab state is the only country in contention so far but could face competition from the four-way \ufeffbid.<\/p>\n

Erick Thohir, chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia, revealed to the Herald that the country had been in discussions with Australia.<\/p>\n

"We are discussing [a bid] with Australia," he said.<\/p>\n

Football Australia chief executive James Johnson previously \ufeffexpressed his intentions to bid for the FIFA World Cup in a statement last week.<\/p>\n

"As stated previously, Football Australia is exploring the possibility of bidding for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and\/or the FIFA World Cup 2034," he said.<\/p>\n

Australia failed in an attempt to host the 2022 World Cup, with Qatar winning after a highly controversial and corrupt bidding process.\ufeff<\/p>\n
