T\ufeffhe rematch between Australian UFC<\/a> superstar Alexander Volkanovski<\/a> and Islam Makhachev<\/a> will go ahead on October 22, with the Wollongong-born champion receiving 11 days notice for the right.<\/p>\n

Makhachev was originally scheduled to fight Charles Oliveira on the UFC 294 card in Abu Dhabi but will now battle Volkanovski for the undisputed lightweight title.<\/p>\n

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news, stating Oliveira had suffered an injury during sparring.<\/p>\n

"Round five of sparring last night before he was supposed to jump on a plane today, splits his eyebrow wide open," he said.<\/p>\n

"Had it stitched up last night, obviously can't fly out with that.<\/p>\n

"It would be one thing too if they called us, we would've had him go to a plastic surgeon\ufeff, that would've sowed it from the inside out, get that thing done the right way.<\/p>\n

"These guys never call us with that shit when something happens, they call us after they get it stitched up."<\/p>\n

White went on to praise and hype up the upcoming rematch between two greats of the sport.<\/p>\n

"The Volkanovski crew, him and Israel, these guys are absolute studs. He jumps in and he accepts the fight," he said. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Volkanovski also posted on Instagram with a simple message.<\/p>\n

"On 11 days notice … don't just talk about it. Be about it," he said.<\/p>\n

The Australian and Makhachev last fought in February, in one of the most highly anticipated UFC battles in recent years.<\/p>\n
