Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley<\/a> believes Australian fan-favourite Nick Kyrgios<\/a> will be providing his usual "entertainment" during the 2024 Australian Open<\/a> despite injury concerns.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios pulled out of the 2023 Australian Open due\ufeff to a knee injury<\/a>, which required surgery.<\/p>\n

His injury woes continued when he was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon and the US Open due to a wrist injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But Tiley remains confident\ufeff that the king of entertainment has overcome his physical barriers.<\/p>\n

"I personally believe in the communication that he's motivated to come back and play in January," Tiley said at the Australian Open launch in Melbourne on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"He loves playing here … in front of his crowd. He knows everyone wants him to play."<\/p>\n

Tiley \ufefflauded the 28-year-old's transparency when it came to his commitment and ability to compete in the Australian Open.<\/p>\n

"The one thing great about Nick, he's very transparent and very open about what he's feeling and what he thinks," Tiley said.<\/p>\n

The Australian Open tournament director did not put pressure on Kyrgios' imminent return, conceding that his knee injury was even more serious than first portrayed.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"It's just a matter of his health. He's had a significant injury and in many cases for many athletes, it can be a career-ending injury," he said.<\/p>\n

"He's got over that and is in the process of still getting over that. I fully expect him to be here and be ready to play and provide us with the entertainment\ufeff we want."<\/p>\n

As for what Tiley knows \ufeffKyrgios can provide, he is confident that the star will capture the imagination of the public yet again.<\/p>\n

"The long list of players we've got, he (Kyrgios) adds to it\ufeff," he said.<\/p>\n

"I love having Nick around, he provides great entertainment, but he is a pleasure to be around. I think that he brings a level of excitement to the event."<\/p>\n

But\ufeff it's not just Kyrgios who will bring the wow factor that Tiley, the tournament and the Australian public crave.<\/p>\n

"With Rafa\ufeff (Nadal) coming back, with the younger generation that are exciting to watch. There wasn't much mention of Stefanos Tsitsipas, he plays really well here. He gets the community, particularly the Greek community here," Tiley said.<\/p>\n

Tiley confirmed that he spoke to Kyrgios "a few days ago" about the next steps toward a triumphant return to home soil.<\/p>\n

"Nick's interests are how\ufeff he progresses over the next couple of months. We still (are) 95 days out, that's a fair long time in someone's preparation for the event," Tiley said.<\/p>\n

"He wants to play, he made that very clear.\ufeff"<\/p>\n
