Australian<\/a> keeper-batter Alex Carey<\/a> is not still being impacted by the fallout from his incendiary stumping of Jonny Bairstow<\/a> during the Ashes<\/a>, says Glenn Maxwell.<\/p>\n

Maxwell threw his support behind Carey after a duck against India in Australia's big defeat<\/a> to start the ODI World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Carey was the antagonist in the biggest Ashes controversy in years when he threw down Bairstow's stumps at Lord's in June<\/a>, sparking uproar from the host nation which included a physical confrontation with MCC members in the famous Long Room<\/a>, and a bizarre fabricated story about Carey failing to pay for a haircut in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe vitriol was so fierce that some Australian players felt it wasn't safe for their families to attend matches during the series.<\/p>\n

In his last 10 matches, Carey has only passed 30 with the bat on one occasion – a 99 against South Africa.<\/p>\n

Former Australian captain Tim Paine suggested the form slump was in part down to the heat Carey copped after the Bairstow incident.<\/p>\n

"We know how dangerous Alex can be. I don't think he's looked the same since the Jonny Bairstow stumping," Paine told SEN radio.<\/p>\n

"Whether that's had an effect on him mentally – he copped an absolute barrel over there from everyone, I know it was a really difficult time for him and his family, he couldn't go out for a coffee without copping abuse.<\/p>\n

"I don't know if it's rattled him or if his confidence has dropped off since, but certainly his batting \u2013 he hasn't looked the same.<\/p>\n

"His body language and his intent, his intent to go out and take the game on from the start."<\/p>\n

Maxwell, though, does not subscribe to that theory.<\/p>\n

While Carey struggled with the mass criticism at the time, his teammate says he's now past it.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think there's been enough water under the bridge since then," Maxwell said.<\/p>\n

"He seems to be batting really well in the nets from what I saw until probably I ran him out in that practice game.<\/p>\n

"He seems in really good spirits and he's keeping really well… The other night he just got his bat caught behind on his pad which can happen sometimes.<\/p>\n

"I feel like every batter has made that mistake, where you're trying to get forward and just clip your pad and it deflects it a little bit."<\/p>\n
