2\ufeff013 US Masters<\/a> winner Adam Scott<\/a> has opened up on the devastation of his record at the Australian Open<\/a> following his third second-placed finish last year.<\/p>\n

Scott went close to victory in 2022 but a disappointing final round handed the lead to Poland's Adrian Meronk\ufeff who finished ahead by five strokes.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old has only won the Australian Open once in 2009 but will return for his home country next month to play in the Open and the PGA Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffUpon announcing his participation in the upcoming major tournaments<\/a>, Scott declared his disappointment at last year's result and the burning desire to fulfill goals he set out as a youngster.<\/p>\n

"It was a really disappointing finish for me, I didn't really start the week playing particularly well but over the second and third and fourth \ufeffround worked myself into a position but I couldn't just really get going there on Sunday and then hit a really poor shot off the 17th tee," he said.<\/p>\n

"It feels like I've finished second a lot in the Australian Open, I don't know how many times it is but it feels like a lot and it's not nice being the runner up all the time.<\/p>\n

"I had dreams as a kid of putting my name on the Stonehaven Cup five and six times like some of the greats of the game have and that's going to be hard for me to do but I'd like to get a second one."<\/p>\n

While Scott has had inconsistent success with the Australia Open, the 43-year-old has won two Australian PGA Championships, his last coming in 2019.<\/p>\n

Cameron Smith won the 2022 event and will return to defend his crown.<\/p>\n

After turning professional in 2000, Scott has claimed 31 professional wins.<\/p>\n

The legendary golfer admits the hunger \ufeffstill remains despite being at the back end of his career.<\/p>\n

"There's some ebbs and flows but generally I think as a competitive golfer, the appetite's always there," he said.<\/p>\n

"There are for sure moments where you're more hungry … I don't want to say I'm getting on too much, because I don't feel it, but there are probably less Australian Opens for me to play in going forward where I'm competing seriously so I want to make the most of everyone I'm in and the PGA for that matter.<\/p>\n
