Australian star Glenn Maxwell<\/a> has compared the pitch in Chennai to one from a Test series following the World Cup<\/a>-opening loss to India.<\/p>\n

Maxwell and the rest of his teammates were all at sea in the six-wicket loss to the host nation<\/a>, as its three-pronged spin attack of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav ran riot.<\/p>\n

The star all-rounder managed just 15 as Australia was dismissed for 199, and explained what he and his teammates were thinking as the wickets fell in a heap.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI\ufefft was certainly a quite interesting first encounter at the World Cup," he told SEN's Sportsday<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I think the wicket was obviously a different one to the couple we've seen previously in India. It's been a while since any of our batters have played on a wicket like that.<\/p>\n

"It was probably more similar to some of the Test wickets we've played on over here, that was certainly the feeling from the batting group coming back.<\/p>\n

"It felt like you had to be super clear on your defensive plans and wait for anything slightly loose to score off.<\/p>\n

"There was a lot of inconsistencies in the pitch and it just made strokeplay in general really difficult.<\/p>\n

"We may have missed a trick. We were thinking we could get to 240-250 and it was maybe a 230 pitch.<\/p>\n

\"Marsh\u00a0makes\u00a0a\u00a0meal\u00a0of\u00a0simple\u00a0chance\"<\/p>\n

"You can have all the best-laid plans in the world, but sometimes the conditions are just against you."<\/p>\n

Maxwell, who has played years of Indian Premier League tournaments in the country, explained how drastically conditions can change from city to city.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"India is probably the only place \ufeffwhere every city you go to, it's almost like going to a different country," he said.<\/p>\n

"We're at Lucknow at the moment and this is probably the most unknown\ufeff (pitch) in the whole of India. Since the IPL … I think the whole ground has been dug up and re-laid, so it's a bit of an unknown what we're going to get here.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The conditions are so different everywhere and it's got its little intricacies. The grounds are all different sizes, Lucknow is a big ground, it's probably more similar to grounds we play on in Australia and hopefully it's a good wicket and we can put on a show."<\/p>\n

\ufeffMaxwell put the onus on Australia's top order to help out the rest of the team when faced with conditions such as the ones they encountered in Chennai.<\/p>\n

"It still comes down to the first few overs of the game," he said.<\/p>\n
