Harry Grant<\/a> has backed Nicho Hynes<\/a> to return to club land a better player after his run with the Kangaroos<\/a>, following a season rocked by his State of Origin<\/a> axing and Cronulla<\/a>'s elimination final exit.<\/p>\n

Hynes spoke with his renowned raw honesty after being dumped from the NSW Blues following game one in Adelaide<\/a>, and again following the Sharks' 13-12\ufeff defeat to the Roosters in the first week of the finals<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The gun halfback wasn't named in Mal Meninga's initial Australian squad<\/a> for the Pacific Championships, but he was added when Nathan Cleary was ruled out due to a knee injury suffered in the grand final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Joining the \ufeffKangaroos squad for the inaugural Pacific Championships has linked Hynes and Grant, bringing the former Storm teammates together again.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffHe's really earnt his opportunity with representative footy," Grant told 2GB's Wide World of Sports radio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Origin didn't go the way he would have liked and then he got left out of the team, but he's earnt that opportunity and he's still an Origin player.<\/p>\n

\"Nicho<\/p>\n

"Now to be in the Kangaroos camp is pretty special for him.<\/p>\n

"I know he's not just coming here to learn; he's keen to try to push for a spot and take every opportunity he gets.<\/p>\n

"He's going to be a better player for being in this camp and so will the Sharkies."<\/p>\n

Hynes said in August that his Origin axing had left him "a bit shot".<\/p>\n

"I felt like I let a lot of people down, I let myself down.<\/p>\n

"I said I was ready for [Origin] and I thought I was \u2014 and I still think I am.<\/p>\n

"It's just one little moment in a big game can bring you back down to earth a little bit."<\/p>\n

Reflecting on Cronulla's finals defeat, the 2022 Dally M Medal winner spoke of his desire to learn from hardship.<\/p>\n

"I think it's just who I am, I'm a learner, I want to be better, I feel like if I hold onto that, hold onto that pain, then it's going to motivate me a lot going into the pre-season," Hynes told 9News in September.<\/p>\n

Australia will square off with Samoa and New Zealand in the Pacific Championships, beginning with a game against Samoa \ufeffin Townsville on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

Queensland Origin halves Cameron Munster and Daly Cherry-Evans are expected to pair up in the clash with Samoa, but Hynes could get a run as a utility off the bench.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Meninga could blood six debutants in the Samoa clash in Hynes, Dylan Edwards, Selwyn Cobbo, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Kotoni Staggs and Thomas Flegler.<\/p>\n

9News' Danny Weidler\ufeff reported on Monday that Edwards, Cobbo, Tabuai-Fidow and Staggs would all be picked to face Samoa.<\/p>\n

The Pacific Championships, set to run across four consecutive weekends from this weekend, will see Australia, New Zealand and Samoa square off in the Pacific Cup, and Papua New Guinea, the Cook Islands and Fiji contest the Pacific Bowl.<\/p>\n

Tonga will not feature in the Pacific Championships because it'll be touring England for a three-Test series across October and November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
