G\ufeffeelong<\/a> veteran Tom Hawkins<\/a> is yet to re-sign with the Cats amid a lengthy contract impasse with the club that drafted him.<\/p>\n

Hawkins, 35, remains a prolific forward despite his advancing age and could be an attractive proposition for rival clubs if he's not able to agree on terms with Geelong.<\/p>\n

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio, Hawkins' former Geelong teammate Josh Jenkins offered an insight into the star forward's contract talks.<\/p>\n

"He was willing to tell me that he and the Cats are still a ways apart with his new contract," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI thought it would already be on someone's desk ready to be signed off on, but he and the Cats are just a little ways apart from him signing on for next year.<\/p>\n

"I don't think there's any real doubt on him playing in a Cats jumper next year, but I was very surprised to learn that there was still some ground to be covered."<\/p>\n

According to SEN's Tom Morris, Hawkins "was prepared to play for a rival club if the offer was not right at Geelong\ufeff" earlier this year. Morris added that Hawkins' "preference" is to remain with the Cats, where he has played 347 career games to date.<\/p>\n
